Dear Members,
2007 has been a very busy year for me
personally. I trained and tested my dog Oskar at the Toronto Chapter
UT test. He scored a 199 Prize 1. The 5 Points lost were my fault
due to my inexperience.
This year was also the year in which two long
time members Bob Farris and Bill Athens were expelled from our club.
This expulsion was due to threats and insults aimed at the members of
the Board. Other members have been pointing fingers and accusing
other members of improper breeding practices. CAPA is a club of
people interested in Pudelpointers not a regulatory board to hand out
penalties and punishments. There is very little power for us to
enforce breeding actions. There seems to be confusion as to what the
breeding requirements are so a copy has been included in the
newsletter. These requirements were voted on by the membership and
ratified in 2004.
Changes were made at the last general meeting to
the by-laws. It was decided to have a general meeting at the same
time and place as the NAVHDA annual general meeting. We received a
very poor return from the membership and chose to re-schedule the
meeting to later in the Spring of 2008. Watch for notices. The Board
would be glad to have input from anyone.
2007 saw the resignation of our newsletter
editor. This issue is being prepared by me and Marty Daugherty the
web master. If any members feel that they may be able to compile and
prepare the newsletter please feel free to contact me.
A number of members have requested a copy of the
by-laws and membership list. The Board decided not to put the
membership list on the internet due to concerns over identity theft
and junk E-mails. This issue will have a current member list with
limited contact information, as well as an up to date copy of the by-
laws.
As a matter of procedure the Board will extend
the deadline for changes to the by-laws to be submitted to the
President or Secretary by February 28, 2008.
Ballots for the new 'Board of Directors' will be
sent out to the membership March 30, 2008. Only members that have
renewed their membership dues will be sent ballots.
In closing, CAPA recognizes the importance of the
breeders and maintaining proper breeding standards. CAPA is not a
regulatory organization. We are a Breed Club not a
breeders Club. My hopes are that CAPA will no be subject to any more
unpleasantness with members getting nasty with one another and with
members of the Board. Owning a Pudelpointer and being a member
of CAPA is fun, let’s keep it that way.
Good Hunting.
Roger Huttmann, Secretary/Treasurer
